Meet the SBA Fall Election Candidates!!
Alex Fumagali for Transfer Representative
In every school, job, or team that I’ve ever been a part of, I have always made it a point to take a leadership position, and make the people around me better at whatever they do. I do not want my experience at FSU Law to be any different. Most of the other transfers and I were not initially qualified to be accepted into FSU Law immediately after undergrad, which is why we had to excel in our 1L years in order to make it here as transfer students.
While we are all happy that we’ve made it here, I’ve noticed that most of us have felt “out of the loop” in these first few weeks of school. The other 2L’s who have been here for over a year now have had opportunities to form cliques and get involved in activities around the school.
Those who took those opportunities are now very active around the school and have made this place their second home. We want to have the same success as the other 2L’s, but it is clear that we have some “catching up” to do. I strongly believe that if I’m voted into an SBA position, I will be able to get this transfer class just as involved in student life as the rest of the student body.
I consider myself to be a very social person, and will go out of my way to meet new people and network. I’ve used this trait throughout my life to succeed in difficult tasks, motivate my peers, and even help my friends get jobs. I will also now be able to use it to help the transfer class have a smooth transition from being a “transfer student” to a “regular student.”
If I’m voted into the Transfer Rep position, I won’t be the only transfer student getting involved in SBA. Rather, all 52 new transfers will be getting involved. The class of 2012 will be even stronger and more successful than the Administration initially thought it would be.
Andrew W. Smith for Transfer Representative
My name is Andrew W. Smith; I am a lifelong Seminole from Tampa, Florida and have experience in both the public and private sector of the Tallahassee business community through my work at Stiles, Taylor & Grace P.A. as a Legislative Assistant and in the General Counsel’s Office for the Department of Children and Families. It was during this time that I began to understand the power of effective networking and how important it is for us to develop genuine friendships while we are here at the Florida State College of Law. We are the sculptors who will mold the face of the Florida political and business community for better or for worse so we must push ourselves to go beyond our comfort zone and question, innovate, and restructure our professions in order to compete in the current legal environment.
I am running for the position of Transfer Representative to help keep the student body the first priority of the administration and business community. I promise to diligently pursue employment, internship, and social networking opportunities for the student body of the Florida State College of Law. I promise to listen to any and every concern with open arms and ears and will do everything asked of me as a representative.
What I love most about our school is how helpful the professors, administrators, and students are with one another. Let’s build upon this, stride further and provide networks and venues to share our ideas and concerns. As a Georgia Tech Student-Athlete I learned the power of teamwork and how powerful we can be if we work together. Through my time and work in Atlanta, Miami, Tampa, and Tallahassee I will bring a healthy amount of diversity to our current representative body and will contribute innovative solutions to any situation we may face throughout the school year.
Please vote for Andrew W. Smith for Transfer Representative. Thank you and God bless.
