MEET the Candidates for SBA President!!
Max Dauerman
Hi, my name is Max Dauerman and I am running for President of the Student Bar
Association. I am from Coral Springs, Florida and graduated in 2009 from the University of
Maryland. First of all, I would like to thank all of my peers for allowing me to represent you this
past year as your Jr. ABA Representative and Social Chair.
I am running to be the President of the SBA because I want to continue to be a part of making
the experience at FSU Law as enjoyable as possible for everyone involved. In this capacity I
would be able to not only help build a great atmosphere here at the law school, but also have a
platform to let people around the country know about the remarkable experiences that are taking
place here at FSU Law.
I have been very involved in the SBA this past year as the Social Chair for the Student Bar
Association. In that capacity I have planned all of the socials, assisted with the major events, and
working events such as the Law School Olympics. I would like to continue the great events that
took place, such as Legislative Preview, The Valentine’s Day Date Auction for the American
Heart Association, and tailgates for sporting events, this coming year and continue developing
them as Florida State Law traditions.
Making the student body even more united is another goal that I hope to achieve. Through
integrating all class levels into a more solidified whole will provide for a more balanced
experience through the sharing of knowledge that interaction between 3L’s and 1L’s will create.
I am also interested in bringing in different speakers, such as a Florida State athletic coaches,
who would be able to bring a different perspective than what we are used to. I also would like to
set up a meet and greet with some of the athletes themselves.
I hope you will allow me to continue to represent you in the future as we continue to make
Florida State Law the elite school that we all know it is capable of becoming.

Alex Haddad
Alex was born and raised in Niceville, Florida. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Florida State University in 2009 with dual degrees in Literature and Mass Media Studies. Go Noles! She was an active member of the Kappa Delta sorority, FSU Habitat for Humanity and Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society. Alex loves FSU Football, traveling, running, and spending time with friends and family. Alex is also a member of the FSU Moot Court Team. This past year Alex served on the SBA executive board as a 2L representative. This year she hopes to continue to make a positive impact on student/alumni relationships at the law school as well as cohesiveness within the student body. Likes: when people go out of their way to help others. Dislikes: mean people and when the toilet paper rolls under instead of over.
Why I am running for the position:
My first year of law school, I tried to wait to see what I was most interested in getting involved in, so I didn’t run that year. But I quickly realized how awesome FSU SBA is and I knew I wanted to be a part of it and help in any way I could. I served this past year as a 2L Representative. I was in charge of lockers, being a liaison to the Diversity Week, and I helped in any little way that I could, including helping with the Etiquette Dinner as well as Legislative Preview.
As a die-hard Seminole, I know how much FSU has given to me since I came here for undergrad. My parents have always said, “To whom much is given, much is expected.” I try to live this out everyday, and I know that serving as President of SBA will allow me to give back to FSU and my classmates what I have been given. I want to do my best to make FSU Law even better than it already is. I want to continue fostering the strong relations we have the faculty and staff, as well as increasing our student membership by making sure everyone feels like SBA is representing them.
I hope that my classmates have faith in me to serve them as the SBA President. I will always be honest, do what is best for the FSU College of Law, and I will always be diligent in caring for each and every person’s concerns. This is our school, and I just want to help make it the best it possibly can be. Thank you so much for your consideration and support!

Andrew W. Smith
The Student Bar Association (“SBA”) was created to improve the overall quality of life for each individual
student. After serving on the executive board as Transfer Student Representative I have identified
several pressing issues we will face during the 2011-2012 school year.
Funding:
SBA is funded through student participation and school appropriations. In recent years, not only has the
school allocated fewer funds to student organizations but fewer students have joined SBA. This shortfall
limits the functionality of student organizations. In response, I joined the FSU Student Government
Association (“SGA”) Legislature as a Graduate Studies Senator. SGA controls millions in school-funded
dollars, which previously; the College of Law did not have a voice. While representing the interests of
the College of Law in SGA I am working to maximize these allocations. Furthermore, by attaining the
position of SBA President I would be able to coordinate our affairs with the FSU community.
Social Activities & Networking:
Due to the decline in SBA membership we have seen lower turnouts at our social gatherings. However, I
believe that an additional step needs to be taken to revamp our image and expand our influence in the
FSU and Tallahassee community. Our socials should include other professional organizations on campus
as well as various legal associations with influence in the state of Florida.
Community Service & Group Activities:
I will increase our sense of community by planning team-oriented events and day functions by
expanding our group community service activities, fundraisers, and pro bono opportunities.
Communication:
We currently operate on a platform where students must search emails, announcements, word-of-
mouth, and Facebook notifications in order to find information on organizational events. This process
can be streamlined through the SBA website to provide information relevant to our student body. By
effectively communicating with one another we will decrease inefficiencies while increasing our campus
involvement.
I give you my word that I will fulfill the needs of our student body and continue the long tradition
of excellence we have grown accustomed to here at Florida State. I will complete my duties as SBA
President with persistence and passion.
Please vote Andrew W. Smith on April 7th.
Thank you and God bless.
