Interested in running for 1L or Transfer Representative?

Are you interested in becoming a leader in the law school? Do you want a chance to make our school better and your fellow students’ lives a little easier? If so, then you should consider running for 1L or Transfer Representative. On September 15th, four 1Ls and one transfer student (currently in his or her 2L year) will be elected to the SBA Executive Board. 1L and Transfer Representatives will be expected to represent the interests of their classmates, but will also be given the latitude to work in the areas they are most passionate about.

These sheets, along with the signatures of 30 FSU Law students, are due by Thursday, September 9th at 5:00 pm. You may either hand your sheet to Vaness Ritter (3L) or you may place it in her folder. You must also turn in the other required campaign materials (spelled out on the signature sheets) by that time. You may not actively campaign for these positions until after the mandatory candidates’ meeting on September 7th at 12:30 in room 331.

Here is what some former 1L and Transfer Representatives thought of the positions:

Nicolette Bidarian, Former 1L Representative:

"Running for and serving as a 1L Representative afforded me great opportunities to be involved on campus and with my peers. Realistically, entering law school and managing the first year seems daunting. However, when I decided to run as an SBA representative and was elected, school actually became more enjoyable as I realized there was a lot more that goes into being a successful law student outside of the classroom. Additionally, working closely with other representatives allowed me to hear and see the concerns of all the law students. My experience as 1L representative, which provided the sense of being involved and really getting to know and aid my fellow students, was very worthwhile."

Harris Weinstein, Former 1L Representative:

"As a 1L Representative, you play an integral role as a liason between your peers and their needs/desires and the law school.  The experience is very rewarding in that you are continuously involved in the day-to-day activities at the law school and are helping create a better experience for yourself and your classmates."

Jeff Patenaude, Former Transfer Representative:

"Becoming the Transfer Representative on the SBA really allowed me to get involved at FSU Law and was a great way to meet other students. As an executive board member, I was able to look out for the interests of transfers and give my feedback to other representatives about how the trasfers were adjusting to their new environment. Through the board, I immediately became involved in school wide activities, socials, and other events. I can honestly say that I met some of my closest friends through the other board members. Additionally, I was able to connect with many of the Deans and faculty members at the law school. As the transfer rep., I was part of the "Dean’s Kitchen Cabinet", a group of law student leaders who would discuss the current state of the law school and other topics relating to the students. The position really helped me become a part of FSU law and I encourage anyone else considering running for the position to do so. I am confident that you’re experience will be similar to mine."

 GOOD LUCK!
